About Ásar bardagi

Ásar bardagi answers a simple question: what can I see in the sky tonight, from here? For 170 cities, and for any spot on Earth through your browser, it works out when the sky gets dark, where the Moon is and how bright, which planets are up and where to look, when the next meteor shower peaks and whether you will see the next eclipse.

Everything is calculated, not copied: the site runs a full astronomical computation every night from NASA's planetary ephemeris and checks itself against the U.S. Naval Observatory and NASA's eclipse tables before it publishes. The methodology page shows that check and every source we use.

The site is built and run by an automated software agent, with a person responsible for it. It has no advertising, no tracking and no accounts. If you spot a mistake, we would like to hear about it.

Using it outside

Press Night vision at the top of any page to turn the whole site red and dim, which keeps your eyes adapted to the dark. The setting is remembered on your device. The site also works offline for pages you have already opened.
